Cost: €180.00

CPD: Continued Professional Development points will be assigned on hours attended.

One of our most deeply individual relationships is that which we have with money. It often carries much of our unconscious and unresolved tension and can reveal hidden conditioning and insecurity. It can reflect difficult aspects of other close relationships, including those with our parents, with the earth, with our bodies and with spiritually”. Kelvin Hall psychotherapist

This two day workshop will offer an opportunity to explore the potent issue of money, viewed from an archetypal perspective. Along with sex and politics, money has been regarded as a taboo subject for conversation in polite society.

Evidently these areas hold a great deal of unconscious material which maintains its existence in the ‘shadows’ of our personal and social lives.

In a therapeutic context, financial concerns often present alongside the many diverse presenting issues. Given the current cost of living context, this ‘thorny subject’ is more relevant than ever. My aim over the weekend is to facilitate an honest exploration of the nature of money as a relational dynamic and symbol of personal energy and value.

We will use creative means and interactive exercises to connect to our personal process and to further our collective understanding of this juicy topic.

Day 1:   A brief introduction to the history of money up to the present time. We will look at our personal myth around finances. An opportunity to reflect on our individual financial histories and explore and share our sense of values through expressive means.

Day 2:  An exploration of the archetype behind money. We will aim to identify blocks to a more satisfying relationship to finance and explore the link with broader issues such as trust, faith and self worth. We will look at new ways to understand money and how we can better satisfy our legitimate needs in the context of austerity politics.

About the Facilitator:

Julie is one of the founding members of the Art therapy Training under Hertfordshire University and subsequently under the auspices of CIT, now MUT. She retired from lecturing on the MA in Art Therapy in 2018 to further pursue her own creative process and a wish to travel. Covid rudely interrupted this notion and she has instead  been immersed in her clinical work since the pandemic. She lives and works in Beara west cork with her life partner and an independently minded, exceedingly elderly sheepdog.

The Dublin Creative Therapy Centre is delighted to facilitate a new art therapy group – The Creative Connection. The Creative Connection is based on the belief that we all have an unlimited resource of creative potential within us; this innate creative potential is transformative in its ability to heal, express, grow and cultivate a more compassionate self.

What is Art Therapy? Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its primary mode of expression and communication. Within this context, art is not used as diagnostic tool but as a medium to address emotional issues which may be confusing and distressing. Art therapy is provided in groups or individually, depending on clients’ needs. It is not a recreational activity or an art lesson, although the sessions can be enjoyable. Clients do not need to have any previous experience or expertise in art.

The Creative Connection art therapy group is designed to foster a rich relationship of discovery and support within the group. Art therapy groups provide a wide range of responses as we realise, we are not alone in our humanness, or in our experiences and our issues. We are moved and stimulated by others, as we realise that we all experience both adversity and growth throughout our lifetimes. Finding our own understanding and solutions to not just personal but collective healing and transformation.

The course offers both directive and non-directive approaches to creativity. It is important to mention that no previous art experience is necessary. This group will be experiential in nature, allowing each individual participant the time and space to explore, express and connect with both themselves and the group on a creative journey of self-discovery.

We look forward to welcoming you on this exciting creative journey.

Benefits of art therapy group work include:

*Meditation/Mindfulness practice
*Self-esteem/confidence
*Insight into interpersonal relationships
*Communication Skills
*Personal Development
*Social Skills
*Opportunities for sharing with those who have experienced similar life experiences.
*Creative expression in a non-judgemental environment

Artfulness – Creativity – Mindfulness – Meditation. Six Week Art therapy Group – 19/04/2022

CREATIVITY MEDITATION MINDFULNESS

Date:  Every Tuesday evening from the 19th of April 2022 for 6 weeks.

Time: 7pm-8.30pm

Venue: The Dublin Creative Therapy Centre, No.3 Great Denmark Street, Dublin 1

Cost for 6 weeks course: €225.00

In traditional mindfulness meditation we develop awareness of the breath, the body, thoughts and emotions, making them our focus. We become aware of what our experience is right in the very moment we’re experiencing it.

Artfulness
Adding moment by moment mindfulness to our creativity helps us to just enjoy the process rather than focusing on end results, which means we draw, colour, write, sculpt, journal or paint more freely and more joyfully.

When we practice mindfulness whilst we’re actually in the process of creating we are also able to befriend and gradually change the habits of negative self-talk, inner criticism, perfectionism and self-doubt that often cause us to feel creatively blocked.

By bringing first a curious, lively awareness, and then a kindly, gentle attitude to what we’re making, we can change how we relate to ourselves, our creativity, and the world around us.

This group will be facilitated by one our accredited art psychotherapists.

No previous art making experience necessary!

Art materials will be provided.
